Charcoal oil aroma lamp question?

So I bought this oil-burning aroma lamp at Earthbound the other day, and the way it works is there's this charcoal bit attached to a rope wick that's dipped into aroma oil inside a fancy glass lamp, and you're supposed to set the charcoal on fire for 2 minutes, at which point you can blow it out and it'll stay hot and continue burning the oil. But the problem is that the coal won't stay lit for more than maybe 20-30 seconds, and the aroma is barely noticable.

In lieu of it, I've been burning incense, which works 10x better. So am I doing it wrong? Or can anyone else shed some light on it?

sounds like a bad stone get a nother one or take it back and buy a lamp bergee there th best type of these lamps and its not oil it should be a achol based liquid?
