i'm looking into buying a luandry hamper, as right now, i have a corner in my room where evverything accumulates. what are some compact desins, as i only have a 18 ince by 18 inch max space to work with?

That sounds about the same size as the open plastic file-crates that I use in my closet. They tuck neatly onto shelves in the closet. I have room for 4, so I can pre-sort the laundry, and they look really tidy in the closet...I can't see down into them because they are in the shelves. I personally really like having the hamper in the closet where I take off/put on my clothing. Tidier, easier, win-win. Another idea: A standard portable laundry bag that hangs on a hook in the closet or the bathroom.

When I've had to keep a laundry basket out in the bedroom area, I have loved tall round wicker baskets with lids. Some are square and fit those dimensions. Some come with detachable liners for carrying laundry to the laundry room with ease. Stores like Ikea and Container Store have cool plastic options...I'd consider using a tall bullet-style trash can with the swiveling opening in a hip, modern room instead of an open hamper, though they have those, too. Target, Walmart, Linens n Things, Bed Bath and Beyond are other good places to look.

Laundry Hamper-Which Model is Best for Your Family

Laundry hampers are probably one of the most useful household items around. In fact, when one pictures their home, it is often incomplete without the image of a laundry hamper (often over flowing with clothes which need washing!). The Classic Model

This is simply because plastic is much lighter than wood and the best part is, plastic is flexible so you get them in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. These are available in rounded versions which are provided with both vertical and horizontal strapping, for extra security.

These laundry hampers are also quite cheap and are easily available in dollar stores and the like.  Plus, they are quite easily stackable so if you have space issues in your apartment, then this is the hamper you're looking for. They are also provided with handholds which enable you to carry clothes easily.

Vinyl Laundry Hamper

These combine the sturdiness of wicker baskets and the convenience factor of plastic hampers. Yup, they are quite resistant to mechanical stresses and strains and are thus strong and tear resistant.  Like plastic, they are quite light and also easy to clean. You can also find liners and replace casters for vinyl hampers quite easily, should the need arise for you to do so. You can also get them with different types of wheel patterns at the bottom.

Wooden laundry Hampers

This is probably the best looking among laundry hampers.  They are usually white or mahogany colored. In fact, nowadays you may find wainscot panels attached to these hampers to add to the aesthetic value of the laundry hamper and also add to the elegance. You can also get wooden laundry hampers which are foldable, so yet again, if you have space issues, then this laundry clothes hamper is just the thing for your home.
