Bought a cooker, cooked on it for the first time yesterday and there are little rusty stains on one side of the solid plates now+ the plate on which i cooked doesn't have the red circle in the middle of it anymore and has stains all over it! Before cooking I had cleaned the metal with a special liquid for stainless steel and then wiped the plates with water and baby oil because I've read in several sources that it gives shine and makes it easier to clean the plates in the future. What do i do now?

I think the problem is that you used water,water does not mix with oil,because the oil is thin it'll separate very quickly and floats on the surface of water, and the water causes rust.Clean the rust with some fine wire wool(ooo),or one of those suede shoe brushes,then coat with pure oil,not oil/water.Best thing to use is a product called Zebrite,designed for cast iron stoves and fires--follow the directions and that should sort the prob.
